Home Grown Potato: Master Bedroom Makeover
We have been in our dream home for nearly 3 years. 3 years. Where has the time gone?!
Whenever we moved in we decided that unless we both loved something for the house we wouldn't get it and that we would save up to get exactly what we wanted and that is exactly what we've done. Yes, that's a long process and no, we don't argue about it. It is honestly the most amazing feeling whenever you find the perfect piece for the house that we both love. We also said that we were getting no IKEA furniture, what so ever, and our house is just basically all the Hemnes range in black/brown because we do love it so much and we haven't found anything nicer.
So far downstairs is pretty much finished, it really just needs the settlement cracks sorted and then painted and we need to sort out the downstairs bathroom. We have found this gorgeous Loft-Style Window Mirror from Nordic House and we need to sort out some storage, we're after something a bit different from just the standard under the sink storage, maybe a trunk.. maybe...
Its upstairs that we need to focus on and the plan over the next year is to sort out the master bedroom, to get bathroom mirrors, to sort out the gym and to do the settlement cracks and then repaint the whole house. So we started with the biggest task, our bedroom...
The Master Bedroom
We had brought an old bed frame over from the apartment and we have using unmatched furniture from various homes and people. The thing that annoyed me the most was the rack wardrobes that just looked so messy.
So whey did it take so long and what inspired the blue? We stayed in this fabulous hotel in Rome when we were there for our first anniversary called The Fifteen Keys Hotel. Its decor is all blue, black and whites but they do have copper accessories and we've gone for very subtle gold. It took us so long because we were determined not to have IKEA furniture but most of the black furniture we found looked a bit trashy, was shiny and we couldn't find anything we liked. Also sorting out a house is not cheap and requires savings and savings takes time.
I LOVEEEEEEE how our room has turned out; we used Laura Ashley paint called Sapphire, it has actually been discontinued and it was a bit flaky so I don't think well use any more LA paint but it was the perfect colour. All of the furniture is the Hemnes range from IKEA, I think in the last 10 years IKEAs quality has gotten so much better.
We did have a plan of action to do the transformation; we cleared out the room, painted, then assembled the wardrobe first because we needed the most space for it, then the bed, then everything else and that actually worked brilliantly but it took forever and the house felt like it was a mess for weeks, which I found very stressful. The wardrobe and bed took about 13 hours in total to assemble so we did it over a bank holiday weekend and then we had to sort out everything else as it was just a mess but it was totally worth it and our new room feels like a hotel.
Finishing touches; the Hemma lamps (with the Nittio Bulb) , the gold frames, the gold pots and the fake ferns (called Fernie and Cotton LOLS) are all IKEA. We wanted the gold to be very subtle as the room needed just a pop of colour. The rug is the Twin Rimini Blue from Modern Rugs UK and we are super impressed with it because its reversible as well. The larger black frames one the walls are the Ribba range from IKEA and we have pictures that we took of our two trips to Rome to continue that theme. I am still looking for white silk pillowcases as they are meant to be kinder to your skin and hair so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.
This is the first time ever, in my whole and entire life, that I have had a bedroom with fully matching furniture, that was part of my dream for our home and I love it so so much. It was worth the wait <3
